Do you want to address racism in your community, but you don’t know where to begin?
St. Monica Catholic Community will once again offer the JustFaith Ministries three-part Racial Justice series in person, beginning 9-29-21, or on Zoom beginning 9-30-21.
The first phase: Faith and Race Equity: Exploring Power and Privilege--in both live and online formats--is an intensive and successful model of justice education and spiritual formation that consists of weekly meetings, and employs books, videos, speakers, discussion, prayer, retreats, and hands-on experiences. The intent is to provide a tapestry of learning opportunities that emphasize and enliven the remarkable justice tradition of the Catholic Church. Participants have the privilege of becoming community with others and sharing a journey of faith and compassion that is both life-giving and challenging.
Faith and Race Equality: Exploring Power and Privilige Wednesdays, 9/29/21 – 11/17/21 7pm-9pm Onsite at the Spirituality Center
Thursdays, 9/30/21-11/18/21 7pm-9pm On Zoom
This is an 8-week module that awakens groups to the economic systems, public policies, cultural norms, and hidden biases that empower some and oppress others. The first half of the module introduces a framework for understanding and recognizing racial disparities in power and privilege. Sessions 5-8 take a deeper dive into specific issues related to power and privilege, including affirmative action, the school-to-prison pipeline, the criminal justice system, and powerful biases in media representation. As with all JustFaith programs, participants will explore how their faith should inform their response to their learning, as well as discern action steps for working toward racial equity in their own communities.
Course Schedule Sessions meet at 7:00 p.m and end at 9pm. You must be registered to attend and commit to the listed requirements.
