“Should you not then have put my money in the bank so that I could have got it back with interest on my return.” (Matthew 25:27).
The major theme for this 33rd Sunday in the Ordinary Time focuses on our end time preparation, our need to give an account to God what we have done with all things in life, at the end of the liturgical year, to make good use of God’s given talents in our lives to glorify God.
Our worries and anxiety for the end time would be futile if we kept focusing on them without exercising God’s given talents to produce good fruits before the second coming of Christ, the day of the final judgment. Today the Church puts four models (viz. the woman in the first reading and the three servants in the Gospel) to show us the importance of producing good results for God.
The woman of worth developed her talents and blessings. Similarly, the first two servants in the Gospel also did their best with the time and opportunity allotted to them. But the last servant did not take the opportunity to exercise his talents. Instead, he allowed both opportunity and talents to lie fallow. As a result of his cowardice, procrastination, and excuse, he was reckoned as worthless, lazy, and undeserving of any share in his master’s joy.
Therefore, God is inviting us today to live in such a way that we make best use of the talents that God has given us to glorify His Holy Name.
God does not want us holding a relationship of Transaction but Transformation. Therefore, Dynamic Christian disciples are those who (1) BELIEVE, (2) GROW, (3) SERVE, (4) LOVE and (5) LEAD others to Jesus. Today’s topic invites us to exercise without fear or excuses our God given talents, preparing constantly and diligently for the second coming of Christ in the end time, to follow Jesus Christ more closely, to repent our sins, to exercise our Christian stewardship, to use our time, treasure, and talents to love God above all and to love our neighbors as ourselves, participating in the works of mercy, to accomplish God’s will in our lives to glorify God.
How can we help each other make use of our talents in our lives in the end time?
