“Indeed, the word of God is living and effective, sharper than any two-edged sword, penetrating even between soul and spirit, joints and marrow, and able to discern reflections and thoughts of the heart” (Hebrews 4:12).
The major theme for this 28th Sunday in Ordinary Time is on the “Word of God,” that we must listen to it, obey it and put it into practice to achieve our ultimate and true happiness, the Eternal Life.
The readings remind us that we must give absolute and unconditional priority to the Word of God and to use the God-given virtue of prudence to seek true wisdom rather than the vanishing realities of material wealth or political and social influence. The “Word of God” is the true Wisdom of God, nothing can compare with it. When we possess it, true happiness and all else will follow.
Therefore, we are called to let the Word of God in all its vital power and effectiveness to challenge us. Each time the Word of God is proclaimed, it should penetrate our heart, confront our lives, correct our values, question our goals and the means by which we attain them, and demand our total commitment, sacrifice and persistence to carry it through.
God does not want us holding a relationship of Transaction but Transformation. Therefore, Dynamic Christian disciples are those who (1) BELIEVE, (2) GROW, (3) SERVE, (4) LOVE and (5) LEAD others to Jesus. Today’s topics focus on the Word of God, which is the Wisdom of God that invites us to greater happiness with God and leads us to eternal life.
How can we listen to the Word of God and practice the Wisdom of God by following Jesus in His terms, helping and reaching out to others in generous sharing to enjoy true happiness and peace?
Wishing everyone a blessed week in the Lord.
