All are invited to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the founding of Mission San Gabriel Arcángel at an outdoor prayer service with Archbishop José H. Gomez, civic leaders, and representatives of the first people of the land at Mission San Gabriel on Wednesday, Sept. 8, at 7 p.m.
In anticipation of the official opening of the Jubilee, the 22 designated pilgrimage sites across the Archdiocese of Los Angeles will host 40 hours of Eucharistic Adoration, from 6 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 9, through 10 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 11, during which all are invited to pray for spiritual renewal in our local Church. Registration for hourlong periods of prayer before the Blessed Sacrament at all pilgrimage sites will occur via the Jubilee website:forwardinmission.com/adoration.Prayers for use during the 40 Hours of Eucharistic Adoration will also be provided there.
In addition, all are invited to the Jubilee Opening Mass with Archbishop Gomez at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels on Sept. 11 at 11 a.m.; Mass will begin with the Rite of the Opening of the Holy Door on the Cathedral Plaza. The following day, Sunday, Sept. 12, the 22 pilgrimage sites will also open their Holy Doors, through which pilgrims can pass throughout the year to obtain a plenary indulgence.
The official Jubilee hymn, “Always Forward” (“Avancemos” in Spanish), was composed by Christpher Walker.
