El tema principal de este vigésimo sexto domingo del tiempo ordinario nos da una fuerte advertencia contra los celos, la intolerancia, el escándalo y nos invita a abrir la mente y el corazón para aceptar la gracia y las bendiciones de Dios, haciéndonos más conscientes y agradecidos del Espíritu de Dios obrando en otros, incluso en los que menos esperamos o rechazamos. La estrechez, la intolerancia o vivir la vida de acuerdo con un único punto de vista es una injusticia tanto para la persona atrapada en ella como para los demás. Vivir en una atmósfera tan parcial y exclusiva es renunciar voluntariamente a la riqueza y plenitud de la realidad que la pluralidad y la diversidad brindan a la experiencia humana. Sospechar de la heterodoxia simplemente porque es diferente de la familiaridad es elegir vivir una existencia disminuida ... Nuestro Dios es un Dios de sorpresas. Su compasión y misericordia no tienen límite. Por lo tanto, nunca debemos limitar la forma de actuar de Dios, alegando nuestra superioridad, parcialidad, exclusividad, elitismo y justicia propia. Más bien, debemos aceptar e imitar la generosidad y el amor incondicional de Dios hacia todos y evitar todo tipo de celos, intolerancia y escándalo para glorificar a nuestro Dios. “Jesus replied, “Do not prevent him. There is no one who performs a mighty deed in my name who can at the same time speak ill of me. For whoever is not against us is for us” (Mark 9:39-40). The major theme for this 26th Sunday in Ordinary Time gives us a strong warning against jealousy, intolerance, scandal and invites us to open our mind and heart to accept God’s grace and blessings by becoming more aware and appreciative of the Spirit of God at work in others, even in those we least expect or reject. Narrowness, intolerance or living life according to a single point of view is as much an injustice to the person trapped in it as it is against others. To live in such a partial, exclusive atmosphere is to willingly forfeit the richness and fullness of reality that plurality and diversity afford to human experience. To suspect unorthodoxy simply because it is different from familiarity is to choose to live a diminished existence…. Our God is a God of surprises. His compassion and mercy have no bound. Therefore, we should never limit God’s way of acting, claiming our superiority, partiality, exclusivity, elitism and self-righteousness. Rather, we should accept and imitate God’s generosity and unconditional love toward all and avoid all kind of jealousy, intolerance and scandal to glorify our God. El tema principal de este vigésimo quinto domingo del tiempo ordinario nos invita a ser grandes a los ojos de Dios haciéndonos pequeños y humildes como un niño ante los ojos del mundo, haciendo el bien, cumpliendo la voluntad de Dios como lo hizo Jesús, entregando nuestra vida a Dios en el servicio amoroso de los demás. Grandeza significa que una persona, en comparación con otras de un tipo similar, tiene una clara ventaja o superioridad sobre los demás. La verdadera grandeza se mide en calidad, no en cantidad. Si bien algunas personas miden la grandeza en altura y peso, las personas verdaderamente grandiosas se detienen para hablar con un niño o doblar las rodillas para ayudar a un amigo que sufre. Mientras que otros miden la grandeza en la fuerza física, los verdaderamente grandes cargan con la carga del extraño oprimido. The major theme for this 25th Sunday in Ordinary Time invites us to become great in the sight of God by becoming small and humble like a child in the sight of the world, doing good deeds, fulfilling God’s will as Jesus did, surrendering our lives to God in loving service of others. Greatness means a person when compared to others of a similar type, has a clear advantage or superiority over others. True greatness is measured in quality, not quantity. While some people measure greatness in height and weight, truly great people stop to talk to a child or bend their knees to help a hurting friend. While some others measure greatness in physical strength, truly great ones shoulder the burden of the downtrodden stranger. While some people measure greatness in terms of financial gain, truly great people show generosity to all. While some people measure greatness in applause and accolades, those truly great seek opportunity to serve in the quiet places of the world. While some people measure greatness in commitment to achieving in material ways, truly great people spur others on to reach their goals. God does not want us holding a relationship of Transaction but Transformation. “Tú eres el Mesías” (Marcos 8:29). El tema principal de este vigésimo cuarto domingo del tiempo ordinario se centra y explica la base de nuestra fe como la aceptación de Jesús como el Cristo esperado durante tanto tiempo, el Hijo del Dios viviente y nuestro Señor que se convierte en nuestro Salvador por su total obediencia para cumplir la voluntad del Padre, sufriendo gran sufrimiento, muerte y resurrección por nosotros. Las lecturas describen las tres condiciones del auténtico discipulado cristiano, a saber: (1) negarse a sí mismo, (2) tomar la cruz y (3) seguir a Jesús, imitándolo y conforme a sus enseñanzas y guía. Nuestro Señor Jesús viene a nuestro mundo precisamente para romper nuestras preconcepciones erróneas de la realidad, para defraudar las expectativas populares y para conmocionar la mentalidad rígida ortodoxa. Jesús testifica que Dios no es lo que el mundo o la sociedad creen que es, un ser supremo opresivo enojado. “You are the Messiah.” (Mark 8:29). The major theme for this 24th Sunday in Ordinary Time centers and explains the basis of our Faith as acceptance of Jesus as the long-expected Christ. The Son of the Living God and our Lord becomes our Savior by His total obedience to fulfill the will of the Father, undergoing great suffering, death and Resurrection for our sake. The readings outline the three conditions of authentic Christian discipleship, namely: (1) denying oneself, (2) taking up one’s cross and (3) following Jesus, imitating Him and conforming to His teachings and guidance. Our Lord Jesus comes into our world precisely to shatter our wrongful preconceptions of reality, to disappoint popular expectations and to shock the orthodox rigid mentality. Jesus testifies that God is not what the world or society thinks He is, an angry oppressive supreme being. To show that God the Father in Heaven is not of the worldly values and false expectations, Jesus brings to the cross those who love but would not accept Him. In its shadow, people begin to learn the answer to His question, “Who do you say I am?” People start to understand that in the mystery of innocent suffering endured for the sake of others, our fallen humanity can glimpse the loving kindness and caring presence of a compassionate and merciful God who has not abandoned us, the poor and lowly remnant of His inheritance. “¡Qué bien lo hace todo! Hace oír a los sordos y hablar a los mudos” (Marcos 7:37). El tema principal de este 23o Domingo del Tiempo Ordinario nos invita a convertirnos en los humildes instrumentos de sanación de Dios en las manos de Jesús, dando voz a los sin voz y amor solidario a los necesitados y marginados, invitándonos a abrir nuestros oídos para escuchar la palabra de Dios y dejar que el Espíritu Santo nos suelte la lengua para proclamar la Buena Nueva del amor y la salvación de Dios para todos. Las lecturas de hoy hablan de un Dios que se preocupa especialmente por los que no tienen voz y los afligidos. Sin embargo, algunos de nosotros hemos perdido la fe en Dios y la capacidad de reconocer Su voz llamándonos a la acción para dar oído y voz a los sordos y mudos, de modo que la persona sanada pueda convertirse en un verdadero testigo del poder de Dios. Una Iglesia que ha de dar testimonio del ejemplo del amor de Jesús no debe descuidar a "los abatidos" y los sufrientes. A través de la presencia sanadora de Cristo, nosotros, como Iglesia, debemos dar voz a los que no la tienen y convertirnos en el instrumento de paz y salvación de Dios para el mundo. “He has done all things well. He makes the deaf hear and [the] mute speak.” (Mark 7:37). The major theme for this 23rd Sunday in Ordinary Time invites us to become God’s humble instruments of healing in Jesus’ hands by giving voice to the voiceless and caring love to the needy and the marginalized people, inviting us to open our ears to hear the word of God and to let our tongues be loosened by the Holy Spirit to proclaim the Good News of God’s love and salvation to all. Today’s readings speak of a God who is especially caring for the voiceless and the afflicted. However, some of us have lost faith in God and the ability to recognize His voice calling us into action to give hearing and voice to the deaf and the mute, so that the healed person can become a true witness to the power of God. A Church that is to bear witness to the example of Jesus’ love must not neglect “those who are bowed down,” and suffering. Through Christ’s healing presence, we as the Church must give voice to the voiceless and become God’s instrument of peace and salvation to the world. By continuing Jesus’ ministry in this troubled world, the Church keeps us in touch with the reality of God’s saving power, divine mercy, compassion, forgiveness and grace.
